Know about Dummies and Pacifiers
Dummies are commonly known as pacifiers in Singapore.
It is not a need to have one for your baby unless he or she discovers the sucking of thumb early.
There are silicon or latex, round or flat pacifiers in the market. The transparent silicon pacifier is often softer and easier for younger babies; but once they grow older, latex pacifier (yellow in colour) is recommended because chewing and biting it with their new teeth may break the silicon into tiny bits which then can be swallowed. Although latex is much durable and hardier but do note that latex is a material that manufacture the tires. It is advisable to change new pacifiers every few weeks.
In the market, one can see that round pacifiers are quite common. But according to orthodontists, flat pacifiers sit better in gum and reduce dental problems.
According to experts, it is better to wean off pacifiers at the age of 3 years old as it will not only lead to dental problems but occasionally speech problem in some cases too.
My girl weaned off pacifiers at the age of 2.
